Este primer LP de Jorge Nunes & Los Full Time Fools contiene desde el R’n’R grasiento y agarajerado de Cold Chicken, hasta el melancólico medio tiempo country ala Charlie Rich en Those Country Songs, una hermosa canción no exenta de humor. En medio podemos encontrar el evocador instrumental fronterizo (de cualquier frontera) Cuidado con Taco Panza, con su inequívoco olor a Rio Rockers y sabor a polvo del desierto. O A Fool Like Me, una canción perfecta que no habría desentonado en el catálogo de Sun records de los primeros años 60. Encontramos rastros de Bo Diddley en la rítmica y junglesca So Bad, So Sad, una delicia. Fool es una balada perfecta que solo unos auténticos conocedores y amantes de la música de raíces habrían podido escribir. La única versión del disco es Mama Say Blue, una oscura canción de 1965 a la que los Full Time Fools han insuflado nueva vida con unos pegadizos coros haciéndola así aún más irresistible. Too Dry To Cry es un exquisito medio tiempo a ritmo de Early Ska o Blue Beat, en la que el piano da el contrapunto estilístico creando una mezcla imparable. Como dijo el productor Mike Mariconda durante la grabación: algo como una Johnny Cash jamaicana. I Shot The Dj podría haber sido una de esas fascinantes canciones que Chuck Berry ponía en las caras B de sus primero singles, un R’n’R con ritmo latino que explica cómo acabar drásticamente con el ego de algunos pinchadiscos (desde el amor y el respeto, claro). Hong Kong está lejanamente inspirada en la canción del mismo título de Screamin Jay Hawkins, pero pasando por la trituradora del punk, el blues grasiento y el rock and roll, convirtiendo el Chop Suey! en el nuevo grito de guerra de la banda.

This new Jorge Nunes & Los Full Time Fools album's got everything from the finger lickin' greasy R'n'R of Cold Chicken, to melancholy mid-tempo country ala Charlie Rich in Those Country Songs, a beautiful tune with a tasteful injection of humour. In the middle we find Beware of Taco Panza, an evocative instrumental with an unmistakable aroma of Chuck Rio and taste of desert dust that gives it that just-south-of-the-border sound (south of which border, you ask? Well dear listener, it could be any border!). With A Fool Like Me you have a song that would feel right at home in the Sun records early 60s catalog. We find traces of Bo Diddley in the rhythmic jungle groove of So Bad, So Sad - a delight. Fool is a perfect ballad that only a true connoisseur and lover of roots music could have written. The only cover on the album is Mama Say Blue, an obscure number from 1965 that the Full Time Fools breathe new life into with catchy choruses that make it even more irresistible. Too Dry To Cry is an exquisite mid-tempo track featuring an Early Ska/Blue Beat rhythm with the piano providing a stylistic counterpoint. The result is unmistakeable: as producer Mike Mariconda put it during the recording, “It sound's like Jamaican Johnny Cash”. I Shot The Dj could have been one of those unexpected gems Chuck Berry liked to stick on the B-sides of his first singles: a R'n'R number with a Latin rhythm that gives us a lesson on how to drastically destroy the over-inflated ego of some DJs (from a place of love and respect, of course). Hong Kong is loosely inspired by the song of the same title by Screamin' Jay Hawkins, but the boys put it through the blender of punk, greasy blues, and rock & roll, turning Chop Suey! into their new war cry.
